I have been watching more closely over the past few weeks. Ceci appears to be doing okay. If, for example, Ceci does not dress for the last 10 games I don't think you see any different outcome in the Senator's overall performance.

In ancient Israel, the village would select a sacrificial goat and all the villagers would have a chance to pray and caste their sins upon the goat. The goat would then be sent out into the desert as sacrifice (atonement for sins). This is the origin of the notion of scapegoat. Something upon which we can load all our sins.

I am not a supporter of Ceci by any means. But, way too much blame is being loaded unto his shoulders when the TEAM underperforms.

Did you guys see the story on TSN about Jeff Carter? 5.25 mill cap hit until 20/21 but actually only owed $7 total during that time!! Someone please grab Dorion's phone and computer FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!

He would retire if he was traded to Ottawa and kill the Kings with his cap recapture.

Agreed.

I'd still like to see him traded so we can send the dollars to other players in the lineup. Plus I'm tired of reading all the female doging and moaning about him.

the team underperforming and ceci being an awful hockey player are not mutually exclusive.

ottawa is not a great team, with or without ceci.....nobody is blaming them losing games 100% on ceci (although a disproportionate amount of his mistakes lead directly to goals). what people get frustrated about is the teams inability to see what a (frank)ing pylon he is. he continues to get top minutes in key situations despite being, AT BEST, a bottom pairing calibre player.

people can say whatever they want about lack of options, but on this roster right now....Jaros, Chabot, Lajoie, and probably Boro (can't believe i'm saying this) are all better hockey players than ceci.

they absolutely need to move him, they can't get locked into another contract (especially not one with term) for a guy who's a fringe NHL player at best.

Sure, he is not the only problem. But he is a massive problem considering how much he plays.

You’ve really sold him here if you are looking to trade him…

Outside of Chabot, it could be argued none of the Sens defence are NHL calibre d-men. Replacing a pylon for a pylon accomplishes nothing. Ceci is getting paid (unfortunately) so that contributes to some on ice decisions.

Ceci is a victim of being put in a spot in the NHL he was never meant to play. His junior career, he was a mobile d-man with a very decent shot. He comes to the pros and he is assigned to be a shut down, stay at home d-man, which of course, he stinks at.

Ceci is just another prospect (Cowen, Lazar, etc) management/ownership held on for too long rather than recognizing his ceiling was not what it was hoped to be and moving him as quickly as possible.

Ceci is a terrible d-man.

He is not a victim of anything other than being ridiculuously over-valued. He cannot handle a puck with opposing players coming towards him in the corners or along the sideboards. He makes poor pass selections, gets no power on the pass and usually dribbles it right back to the other team. On left side rushes into the offensive zone, he regularly shoots high and wide of the net resulting in the puck rimming around and out the other side on an odd-man rush. He rarely hits the net with a shot and when he does, it's usually weak and gloved down.

I'm sorry, he's had multiple seasons to develop now and as someone has said, he has reached his ceiling. Right now, he's just taking up space on the roster and preventing a younger faster player from getting a shot. Absolutely no contract extension should be entertained for him, hometown guy or not.

Chabot (21)
Lajoie (21)
Jaros (22)
Harpur (23)
Ceci (24)
Demelo (25)

This is a very young group. Long way to go before hitting prime. They desperately need a physical DMan to pair with Chabot. I think they are one good Dman away from being a good story.

There are blog posts about how 200 NHL games is the determining bench mark of evaluation of an NHL player, in most cases teams know what kind of player they have by that point where their ceilings are. Ceci was a train wreck at game 200 and hes even worse now.

Young doesn't necessarily mean you will be good. Ceci was "young" at one point...

Ceci has been and will always be terrible. But to think playing him less than any of the above (outside Chabot) is going to fix anything is crazy. That group of d-men (outside Chabot) aren't making the NHL on 20+ other teams. There are loads of issues with this roster.
